LimitState at ICE Yorkshire "Innovation in Geotechnics" Seminar

LimitState director Dr Colin Smith presents at the ICE Yorkshire "Innovations in Geotechnical Engineering" seminar

On 16 March, LimitState were pleased to be invited to present at the "Innovation in Geotechnics" seminar organized by the Yorkshire Geotechnical Group of the Institution of Civil Engineers, in Wakefield, UK.

The clear theme of the day was 'innovation' and during the day delegates were exposed to many examples of innovative developments in the industry. In their presentation, entitled 'Advances in geotechnical limit analysis', LimitState Directors Dr Matthew Gilbert and Dr Colin Smith spoke about the development of the Discontinuity Layout Optimization (DLO) procedure, and in particular the highly innovative DLO-based geotechnical software LimitState:GEO and its application. It was demonstrated that the software could be applied to establish the stability of slopes, retaining walls, footings and virtually any other geotechnical feature, including those incorporating soil reinforcement. Finally, application of the software to Eurocode 7 design problems was briefly touched upon.

The event was well attended and feedback from delegates was extremely positive.
