LimitState:GEO 3.0 Out Now

LimitState are pleased to announce the launch of LimitState:GEO version 3.0. Following a launch event at the Institution of Structural Engineers, the latest incarnation of the groundbreaking geotechnical limit analysis software has been made available for general release.

8 Key Highlights of LimitState:GEO 3.0

1. Powerful new means of assessing safety
Analyse the ultimate limit state (ULS) in one of two ways:

  • Factoring load(s)
  • Factoring material strength(s)

Quickly determine whether your construction is under / over designed for the chosen set of partial factors. The software is also fully compatible with the Eurocode ‘Design Approaches’.

2. Improved water modelling capability
The new water modelling options allow users to model a different water pressure distribution in each soil layer. Possibilities include:

  • Conventional water table
  • Uniform potential
  • Uniform pressure
  • User-defined grid of pressures

3. Enhanced soil reinforcement & soil-structure modelling
The engineered element material has been updated to allow tensile, compressive and bending failures to be modelled. Post analysis tensile force and bending moment diagrams can be displayed for engineered elements and used to determine details such as:

  • Tensile stress distribution in soil reinforcement
  • Bending moment distributions in sheet pile walls

4. Better graphical output
Export images and animations of your model in a variety of different formats:

  • New AVI animation and improved GIF output
  • Export the problem geometry (solved or unsolved) as an EPS, ASY or DXF file
  • Export a screenshot of the model as a raster (PNG, JPEG, TIFF) or vector (EPS, PS) file

5. More informative
Post-solve force, pressure and bending moment diagrams are now available for rigid bodies and engineered elements (e.g soil nails, anchors and sheet pile walls).

Additionally, LimitState:GEO 3.0 sees the addition of a useful diagnostics tool, which can be used to check the consistency of models during production and as they are solved. Warning and error messages highlight areas where attention is required and practical information is provided to enable fixes to be made.

6. Quicker, more accurate solutions
For quicker, more robust analyses, the LimitState:GEO solver engine now utilizes version 6.0.0.135 of the world renowned MOSEK interior point optimizer.

Even more accurate solutions can be obtained with the 'very fine density' and 'optimized layout' nodal settings.7. Enhanced analysis capabilities

7. Enhanced analysis capabilities
In addition to the iomprovements made to the engineered element and water modelling capabilities, a number of new wall wizards have been added to the startup to enable users to qickly create problem geometries:

  • Reinforced soil wall
  • Gabion wall
  • Sheet-pile wall

8. Improved visual appearance
The look and feel of the software has been improved with finer rendering, a new default theme and a more user-friendly layout which makes modelling and interrogation of the solution even easier than before.
