LimitState releases LimitState:GEO 3.0
[Sheffield, November 2012 | Media information: For immediate release]
LimitState Ltd have announced the public release of version 3.0 of their innovative LimitState:GEO geotechnical analysis software product, which allows engineers to rapidly and reliably assess the stability of geotechnical constructions. The software is now available for public download from the LimitState website: http://www.limitstate.com.
LimitState Managing Director Matthew Gilbert commented:
LimitState:GEO 3.0 marks a real coming of age for numerical limit analysis methods. When evaluating safety users now have a choice of whether to increase loads or to reduce soil strength, which makes analysing common geotechnical constructions such as slopes much simpler. The new version also provides users with more information, making it easier to check that a model has been set up correctly, and also to easily view key features of the solution, such as reinforcement forces.
Launched in 2008, LimitState:GEO is now in use in dozens of countries worldwide. The software is unique in bridging the gap between simple automated hand-calculation techniques and significantly more complex tools (e.g. based on finite element analysis). For users wishing to evaluate the software, LimitState:GEO 3.0 can be run in trial mode for 30 days.

LimitState releases LimitState:RING 3.0
[Sheffield, February 24 2011 | Media information: For immediate release]
LimitState Ltd have today announced the release of version 3.0 of their powerful LimitState:RING analysis software product, which allows bridge engineers to rapidly and reliably assess the capacity of masonry arch bridges. After being demonstrated to users at recent launch events held in Sheffield and London, the software is now available for public download from the LimitState website: http://www.limitstate.com.
LimitState Managing Director Matthew Gilbert commented:
With LimitState:RING 3.0 we have created a product which combines high ease-of-use with the power to model numerous structure-specific details, which is invaluable considering the varied nature of our bridge stock. The new version produces solutions to large problems much more rapidly than before, and also provides users with increased flexibility when
modelling bridges with complex, potentially distorted, arch profiles.
There are estimated to be around 1 million masonry arch bridge spans around the world, most of which are well over a century old, and all of which need to be regularly assessed. LimitState:RING 3.0 can also be used to assist with the design of new unreinforced arch bridges, which are typically low maintenance structures with competitive whole-life costs.
For users wishing to evaluate the software, LimitState:RING 3.0 can be run in trial mode for an unlimited period.

LimitState secure major Network Rail contract
[Sheffield, April 2010 | Media information: For immediate release]
Sheffield based LimitState has secured a contract to supply Network Rail with their groundbreaking geotechnical software.
The LimitState:GEO software uses new technology to rapidly evaluate the safety of geotechnical constructions such as slopes, retaining walls and foundations.
LimitState specializes in developing innovative and easy to use analysis and design software products for engineers.
Network Rail has purchased a multi-user network license which means the LimitState software can potentially be used by engineers in company offices nationwide.
LimitState will also provide Network Rail with training in using the software in conjunction with new European design standards, known as the Eurocodes, which became mandatory on 1 April.
The introduction of the Eurocode for geotechnical design marks a paradigm shift in the way geotechnical constructions will be designed.
LimitState’s managing director Matthew Gilbert said:
We are extremely pleased that Network Rail and other forward looking organisations are choosing LimitState software to meet their needs as we move into the era of the Eurocodes.
The underlying technology used by LimitState:GEO was originated at the University of Sheffield, which remains the company’s largest single shareholder.
Original development of LimitState:GEO was supported by seedcorn investments made by South Yorkshire Investment Fund (SYIF) in 2007-08.
To cope with increasing demand for their software, LimitState recently appointed Avin Wong as business development manager. Avin formerly worked with AECOM on a variety of projects during a six-year period.

LimitState launches LimitState:GEO 2.0
[Sheffield, 10th June 2009]
LimitState Ltd today announced the launch of version 2.0 of their revolutionary geotechnical analysis and design software product, LimitState:GEO. This software product allows geotechnical engineers to analyse both standard and complex stability problems more efficiently than before, saving time and significantly reducing operating costs. The software is being released at the annual conference of the British Geotechnnical Association, held at the Institution of Civil Engineers HQ in London, and will be available for public download from the LimitState website later today.
LimitState Managing Director Matthew Gilbert commented
Though users of LimitState:GEO 1.0 have told us that they have found the software quick to learn, and that it allows them to set up and solve models in minutes, rather than hours or days using conventional methods, with LimitState:GEO 2.0 we have worked hard to improve all aspects of the software, from the underlying solver engine, which can now model an even wider range of geotechnical problem types and failure mechanisms, to the user interface, where new 'undo anything' functionality makes it very easy to rapidly explore 'what-if' design scenarios.
LimitState:GEO 2.0 also works in harmony with the new Geotechnical Design Eurocode, EC7. The code comes becomes mandatory in Europe in 2010 and marks a significant shift in the way geotechnical design is undertaken. LimitState:GEO 2.0 easily permits analysis and design to be undertaken in accordance with the new code making adoption of the new standard problem-free and efficient.
A 30 day trial version of LimitState:GEO 2.0 can be downloaded from the LimitState website from today.

Launch of new breakthrough product LimitState:GEO
[Sheffield, 2nd May 2008]
LimitState Ltd today announced the launch of a new breakthrough geotechnical analysis and design software product, LimitState:GEO, that allows geotechnical engineers to analyse both standard and complex stability problems more efficiently than before, saving time and significantly reducing operating costs.
LimitState Managing Director Matthew Gilbert commented
Up until now geotechnical engineers have had to rely either on hand calculation methods, a suite of single method programs, or on significantly more complicated finite element packages, but with the introduction of LimitState:GEO any type of stability problem can be solved with a single program that is very straightforward to use.
LimitState:GEO is the first application to be based on a revolutionary new computational technique – Discontinuity Layout Optimisation (DLO) – developed by Gilbert and Dr. Colin Smith at the University of Sheffield. The great practical potential of this work led to the formation of the LimitState company, as a spin-out from the University.
LimitState:GEO has been designed from inception with the new Geotechnical Design Eurocode, EC7, in mind. The code comes becomes mandatory in 2010 and marks a significant shift in the way geotechnical design is undertaken. LimitState:GEO easily permits analysis and design to be undertaken in accordance with the new code making adoption of the new standard problem-free and efficient.
The introduction of LimitState:GEO is being marked by a special launch event in London at the Institution of Civil Engineers on 20th May which will provide an ideal opportunity to learn more about this breakthrough technology and product. A preview edition of the software is now available to use and can be downloaded from the LimiitState website.
